LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP MEETS: The regular meeting of the Low Vision Support Group is being held 10 to 11 a.m. today in the Park Vista North Lounge, 1310 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. "Lighting the Way" is this month's focus. The group, facilitated by Barb Amling, will explore how the right type of lighting can enhance daily tasks, reading, hobbies and moving safely around the house.

The Low Vision Support Group is for those who suffer from or are caretakers for those with vision issues. For more information, call 330-746-2944.

OSTOMY SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET: The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group, sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners, will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the HM Home Care office, 979 Tibbetts-Wick Road, Girard.

The group provides information and encouragement to individuals who have or will have ostomies.

The meeting is free and open to ostomy patients, families and friends. Refreshments are provided and parking is free. For information, call 330-480-3440.

The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group meets once a month at alternating locations in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

FEDERATION OF FAMILIES FOR CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH TO MEET: The First Ohio Chapter of The Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at D&E Clinic, 142 Javit Court, Austintown. May is Mental Health Month and Mallory Hanley will present "A Personal Story."

PARKINSON'S SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET: The regular meeting of the Parkinson's Support Group will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, in the Park Vista North Lounge, 1310 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. This month's focus is on Parkinson's disease and speech therapy.

The Parkinson's Support Group is for those who suffer from or are caretakers to those who have Parkinson's disease. For more information, please call 330-746-2944.

HUMAN HEARTS DISPLAYED FOR HEART DAY: A display of human hearts will be among the informative and educational exhibits showcased during Woman's Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners.

Provided as a service to the community, Woman's Heart Day is slated for 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Covelli Centre. This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women's health issues, cooking demonstrations, refreshments and giveaways.

Free health screenings offered this year include bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and glucose testing, arterial disease assessments, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, body fat measurements and health age assessments.

Registration is required and appointments for lipid panel testing are limited.

WATERSTONE HOSTS RESOURCE FAIR: Waterstone Place Apartments, 1380 Arbor Ave. S.E., Warren, is hosting a Health Professionals Resource Fair from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday. This event is free and open to the public.

Healthcare Professionals attending include Diabetic Shoes and Braces, Power Scooters, Podiatrist, Home Health Care, Meal Delivery, Transportation needs and much more. There will also be a raffle, informational literature and refreshments.

EMERGENCY AGENCIES STAGE MOCK DISASTER: On April 19, ValleyCare Health System of Ohio (Northside Medical Center and Trumbull Memorial Hospital) in conjunction with the Northeast Central Ohio Regional Disaster Planning Consortium and a number of emergency management agencies, held a mock disaster exercise to test the hospital's abilities to respond to a devastating tornado which swept through the region resulting in numerous simulated casualties and fatalities.

All 50 participating agencies among 13 counties were given the same tornado scenario in order to assess their collaborative efforts in planning and responding, communicating with each other and sharing supplies, equipment or staff when possible.

Functional exercises and mock disaster drills such as this one serve the purpose of testing each hospital or agency's internal disaster and crisis communication plans.

Local agencies participating in the 2012 NECO Functional Exercise include:

Mahoning County EMA, Akron Children's Mahoning Valley Hospital, Northside Medical Center, Humility of Mary Health Partners - St. Elizabeth Health Center, Humility of Mary Health Partners - St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, Portage County EMA, Robinson Memorial Hospital, Trumbull County EMA, Humility of Mary Health Partners - St. Joseph Health Center, Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

DRUG COLLECTION EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS: Collections of unused and expired prescription medications during National Drug Take-Back Day, April 28, exceeded expectations at Humility of Mary Health Partners: St. Joseph Health Center in Warren collected 439.5 pounds; St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown collected 181 pounds.

HMHP has participated in National Drug Take-Back Day since it was introduced by the Drug Enforcement Administration in 2009. Collections take place twice a year - spring and fall.

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS: The Alzheimer's Association will be holding its monthly caregiver support groups on the following dates:
