Blunt force caused death of motorcyclist

YOUNGSTOWN - The Mahoning County Coroner's Office has determined that injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident led to the death of a Lowellville woman.

Motorcyclist Tammy Miller, 20, of Lowellville, was involved in a multiple motor vehicle accident May 4 on state Route 289. Miller was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she died, according to police reports.

Dr. Joseph Orr determined Miller died of blunt force injuries.

The coroner's office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol continue to investigate the accident.

Eastern Gateway to host Application Day

YOUNGSTOWN - Area residents interested in becoming Eastern Gateway Community College students can apply for summer semester classes on Application Day May 16 at the college's Valley Center. The Valley Center is located on the 4th floor of the Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St.

Although students may apply daily at the center, the special day was set to encourage students to complete the process before the last-minute rush, according to the college. Admissions staff, advisers, financial aid personnel and others will be available. Hours are 2 to 6 p.m.

Opera singer to speak about hometown roots

WARREN - Opera singer and Niles native Gary Lehman, one of the premier heldentenors in the world, will return to his roots to speak and sing May 15 at Packard Music Hall.

He is the third guest in the speaker series ''It All Started Here.'' The series features Trumbull County residents who made their marks nationally or globally. It is being sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle to help mark the 200th anniversary of newspaper publishing in Trumbull County.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Tribune Chronicle or online at tribtoday.com. Information is available at 330-841-1696. The speech begins at 7 p.m. at the hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W.

Lehman has performed lead roles around the world as an opera singer, including in New York's Metropolitan Opera.
