BRACEVILLE - Local residents will be building a new playground Saturday for children thanks to a partnership between Project Be Somebody, KaBOOM! and Snapple.

The new playground at the LaBrae Athletic Complex park area, 3282 state Route 82, will be wheelchair accessible.

Lisa Booze of Project Be Somebody and head of the event planning committee, said the building will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and she expects more than 50 volunteers.

Booze said the playground design was chosen based on input from the children who drew their dream playgrounds for planners and will be up in a day.

"The response that we've gotten from the community has been overwhelming," Booze said.

"There was really a need for a public playground in this area, and it just took a few of us standing up and saying, 'Hey, we can do this.' When the great families in our community supporting many fundraisers, the project went to a whole new level," she said.

Booze said the build will incorporate the professional guidance and community-build model of Playworld Midstates Systems of New Albany.

KaBOOM! is a national nonprofit that helps communities build playgrounds.

The official ribbon cutting will be at 2 p.m. May 12 with local and state officials invited.
