NILES - The Cafaro Co. will announce the name of its planned Eastwood Mall hotel and who will operate it at a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. today.
Cafaro spokesman Joe Bell said Tuesday the company also will give updates on the project's direction and timetable, noting mall visitors could start to see early construction activity this month.
The hotel would be attached directly behind the mall, with access to the mall near Dillard's department store. Each room will offer a kitchen area with full-size appliances for extended-stay business travelers, as well as families.
More area hotel space is seen as a need as oil and gas industry workers arrive from out of state to begin work on the Marcellus and Utica shale fields, along with other business growth.
The project also will include an adjacent banquet and conference center for events from 25 to 1,000 people.
An issue arose recently about Cafaro's request for waiver of a roughly $50,000 tap-in fee for sanitary sewers. Trumbull County prosecutors said the county doesn't have authority to waive the fee.
Bell called the matter a "hiccup'' and said it has been resolved.
