EVENT TO TAKE STAND AGAINST RACISM: The YWCA of Warren and Partners for a Peaceful Community will take part in ''Stand Against Racism'' from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the YWCA on Park Avenue.
Guest speaker will be Warren Mayor Doug Franklin. Children from Warren City Schools will display art projects that depict how they see racism, and students from the YWCA Warren's T.E.A.M. Mentoring program will perform a skit depicting how racism plays a role in everyday lives.
Partners for a Peaceful Community is a diverse team of organizations and individuals in Trumbull County committed to promoting peace and was formed after violence in the community, including the death of 11-year-old Lloyd McCoy of Warren. For information, call 330-373-1010, Ext. 13.
STORYTIME SET FOR DOGS: The Hubbard Public Library and the Learning Dog will present a storytime for dogs at 6:30 p.m. today at the Learning Dog, 757 N. Main St. Dogs must be comfortable around other dogs. Those attending must call 330-534-4990 and bring a blanket to sit on the floor with the dog. Dogs and children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
LIBRARY HOLDS FAMILY BOOK DAY: The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, will hold a Family Book Day from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in honor of ''Week of the Young Child.'' The event will include puppets, crafts and music.
NOMINATIONS SOUGHT ON HEROES: The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is seeking nominations for its 2012 Acts of Courage Awards and is seeking to identify local heroes. Local residents are encouraged to nominate individuals whose lifesaving actions are courageous and deserving of special recognition.
The Acts of Courage awards are presented to residents of the Mahoning Valley who have acted courageously and selflessly in a time of emergency. For this year's round, the acts must have happened between April 1, 2011, and April 1, 2012. Nominees must reside or be employed in Mahoning or Trumbull County. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday.
