LeRoy E. Evans 1925-2012

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - LeRoy Eugene Evans, 87, died April 13, 2012. The beloved husband of Charlotte Geraldine Brooks Evans for 67 years and father of Patricia Evans and James Evans, Mr. Evans passed peacefully to the Lord with his wife and daughter at his bedside.

Born March 9, 1925, in Mineral Ridge, the son of Clyde Evans and Rachael Schisler Evans, Mr. Evans graduated from Mineral Ridge High School in 1944 and was a resident of Trumbull County until his retirement in 1986, when he and his wife moved to Florida.

In Florida, he had been a resident of Naples, Ocala, and, most recently, Ponte Vedra.

Mr. Evans was employed by Republic Steel from 1946 to 1986, where he had held the positions of supervisor and mechanic. He loved being a good neighbor to all, tinkering in his shop or garage, dancing with his wife, working crossword puzzles, and, most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He had been a member of the Methodist Churches of Mineral Ridge, Ocala and St. Augustine, Fla. He was active in the church and was a member of the Elks and the Order of the Moose. He loved God and life, and was known for his infectious optimism and good-natured humor in all areas of life and faith.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Edna Paden, Julia Mayfield and Mildred Siefert; and a brother, Edward Evans.

He is survived by his wife and children; four grandchildren, Tabitha Schneider, Charlotte Schneider, Laura Luebbert and Nathaniel Carlson; and a great-granddaughter, Sierra Schneider.

A private family service was held to celebrate his life and its blessings. Mr. Evans' remains were cremated and interred at Kerr Cemetery in Evansville.

Memorial contributions should be made to The LeRoy E. Evans First-Generation Student Scholarship Fund, in care of The President's Office, Lindenwood University, 209 S. Kingshighway St., Saint Charles, MO 63301. Checks should be made payable to Lindenwood University.

Arrangements were handled by the Neptune Society, Jacksonville, Fla.
