Two Liberty High School sophomores were selected as part of the 2012 Youth Leadership Mahoning Valley at a kick-off event held Jan. 25 at Antone's Banquet Center in Boardman.
Katie Daniels and Amber Heggins was among 50 area students who will be part of the year-long program that includes programs and projects for students demonstrating leadership potential. The program provides opportunities for high school sophomores and juniors to practice constructive leadership, community involvement and encourages participation in the future of the community.
Students must be willing an capable to work together to strengthen the community.
At the banquet, The Regional Chamber's vice president marketing and business services, Kim Calvert, welcome the students and addressed the programs goals and purpose.
Following the event, members participated in a one-day retreat facilitated by Mary Wargo, who led the program, ''Leadership: Appreciating Diversity and Leading for a Lifetime.''
Leadership Mahoning Valley was founded in 1984 and is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of trustees.
