State Route 711 ramp

opens after fuel spill

YOUNGSTOWN - The Interstate 680 ramp to state Route 711 re-opened Thursday afternoon following Tuesday's tanker truck accident, Tribune Chronicle news partner WYTV 33 reported.

A tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of fuel rolled over along the ramp from I-680 south to the Route 711 connector about 2 p.m. Tuesday, spilling 2,000 gallons of fuel into a nearby storm sewer.

The crash closed several nearby routes, including I-680 and Route 711 and briefly forced evacuations in the area.

Police said it appeared the driver, Allen Albert, 48, of New Vienna, was going too fast when his rig tipped over.

Charges are expected to be filed.

Dann gets day in court

to defend law license

COLUMBUS - The Ohio Supreme Court has set arguments for April 3 on the possible 6-month suspension of former Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann's law license.

Dann is alleged to have violated legal codes of conduct.

The suspension was recommended in December by a legal board that advises the high court. The Board of Commissioners of Grievances and Discipline questioned Dann's judgment and said his position as attorney general set him apart from other lawyers.

Justices, who have the final say, could accept, reject or toughen the recommended punishment.

Dann resigned in 2008 amid a sexual harassment scandal, then pleaded guilty in 2010 to improperly paying two aides from political and office accounts and failing to disclose campaign expenses.

An email seeking comment from Dann was not immediately answered.

Hubbard man

faces assault charge

HUBBARD - A Laurette Lane man remains free on bond after appearing in court Thursday on charges he struck his girlfriend with a hammer.

Ronald J. Campbell Jr., 18, 381 Laurette Lane, entered no plea at his arraignment Thursday in Girard Municipal Court. He posted a $15,000 bond and is scheduled for a March 14 preliminary hearing.

Police said Campbell was fighting with his girlfriend, Georgieanne L. Purdy, 18, 3054 E. River Road, Newton Falls, about 7:45 p.m. Feb. 7.

When officers found Purdy up the road at a neighbor's house, she was bleeding profusely from the head.

Police said Campbell accused Purdy of cheating on him and struck her with a hammer during the argument.

She told police he then tried to cut his wrists. When officers arrived, reports said, he said he wanted to kill himself.

Officers took him to Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. He was released on Wednesday.
