To honor the memory of longtime Warren educator Anne B. Kellogg, her son and daughter in law, David and Roz Kellogg, recently donated $18,000 to the Niles School district to be used for six annual scholarship awards of $3,000.

''She was from Warren, but we have lived in Niles for probably 46 years,'' said Roz Kellogg. ''We raised our three kids in the city of Niles. This is our community; this is our home.''

Anne Kellogg died at the age of 95 on Feb. 14, 2011. She retired from the Warren school district as an elementary teacher at numerous schools and was principal at Devon School.

''She started teaching in the '60s,'' Roz Kellogg said. ''She was quite an educator and was every dedicated. That was her whole life.''

The Kellogg family is still working on the details of the scholarship.

Interested students will fill out an application and write an essay detailing what the American Dream means to them and how this scholarship can help them attain that, Roz Kellogg said.

Students should maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be involved with extra-curricular activities at the school and within their community. A committee made up of McKinley High School educators and administrators along with David and Roz Kellogg will choose which student will earn the scholarship award.

The scholarship will be awarded at the senior Recognition Day to be held in May.
