CHINESE NEW YEAR: A Chinese New Year festival will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. Those who attend can enjoy food and a craft to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.
READING AND ART BLENDED TOGETHER: Reading and other Forms of Art for children ages 5 to 10 will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Butler Institute of American Art Trumbull Branch, 9350 E. Market St., Howland. The program offers a blend of art and books during this interactive family program. A children's librarian will present stories, and an art educator from the Butler will present a companion craft.
VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT: The Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall is seeking volunteers to join gallery committees. The gallery operates by volunteers functioning on goals and objectives directed by the board of directors. Five to six members are needed to help with each committee. The committees meet monthly.

READING TO THE CANINES: Children improve their reading skills as they read to a tail-wagging audience as part of Pups and Pages from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Howland Library Branch, 9095 E. Market St.
Children in kindergarten through grade 6 may sign up for 15-minute sessions to read to a registered therapy dog. Dogs are provided by K-9s for Compassion, a Delta Society pet partner group that assists with animal-assisted activity and animal-assisted therapy. Registration is required by calling 330-856-2011.
FARM MARKET: The Howland Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Warren SCOPE Center, 8273 High St. Local vendors will be selling various items.
BACKPACK PROGRAM: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley has expanded its backpack program for children through a grant from SJK Fund, a component fund of The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. The program is designed to meet the needs of children when other resources for food are not available, such as weekends and holidays.
Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley also operates backpack programs at Willard and Jefferson Elementary Schools in the city of Warren and other schools. Each Friday, program participants receive a bag of child-friendly, nutritious food to take home over the weekend. The program is a national program of Feeding America.
