Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sanfrey Sr. of Warren celebrated their 70th anniversary Jan. 9, 2012, with family and friends.
Mr. Sanfrey and the former Esther Preston were married Jan. 9, 1942, at Central Christian Church in Warren by the Rev. Gerald R. Goldner.
The couple have four children, Donald Jr. (Sonny) of Studio City, Calif., Karen L. Wright of Youngstown, Debra L. Horvath of Warren and Valerie J. (Michael) Lipps of Mount Airy, Md. They also have five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sanfrey, a former State Highway patrolman, retired from General Motors Lordstown Complex in 1985 as a supervisor in the MVSS Department. He is a World War II veteran having served in the Army Military Police stationed in the Philippines. He was inducted into the Legends of Leather Club Boxing Hall of Fame in 1998 and also sponsors the annual Fighting Sanfrey Family Award.
Mrs. Sanfrey worked at Packard Electric for several years before becoming a homemaker and then returned to work, retiring from S.S. Kresge's Co. in 1972 as department manager.
Mr. Sanfrey served in 2000 as national president of the 37th Division of the Army Veterans, being actively involved since 1969. Mrs. Sanfrey served as national president of the Women's Auxiliary.
Mr. Sanfrey served as High Priest Counselor for 14 years with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and Mrs. Sanfrey served as a past Sunday school teacher and second counselor in the Women's Relief Society Auxiliary.
Esther enjoys playing the organ and Donald enjoyed golfing for many years. They were avid ballroom dancers.
