It is not a four-letter word, but most people's first thought is probably not good.
Not that we have anything personal against a dentist, we just don't think of it as a pleasant visit. But I found myself in need of a trip to the dentist recently and I have to admit I was not looking forward to it. I can think of a lot of trips I would like to take and this isn't one of them, but I had a molar break unexpectedly.
Maybe you can feel my pain.
I haven't lived here long enough to have a dentist yet, so one of my first thoughts was, where am I going to go? I didn't want to just pick one out of the phone book. There are so many other things I would rather be doing with my time. But my tooth was broken and there was a hole where the filling used to be. It wasn't hurting, but that was the only thing I had going for me.
You may have guessed it by now, but I don't like going to the dentist. I haven't had any traumatic experiences, but they seem to cause me pain. Dentists just didn't seem to listen to me when I told them to let the Novocain take effect before drilling. Usually it's after I left the office that the Novocain would set in.
My plan was to ask the first person who came into my office to recommend a dentist. That person did and I looked up the phone number and gave the office a call. When I asked for an appointment someone had just called and canceled one. I could get in the next day to see the dentist. I was actually beginning to look forward to getting this tooth fixed.
The dentist's office is in Cortland and it isn't too far from my office. I arrived a little early to fill out the paperwork and we were good to go.
They took me back to the room and got me comfortable for when the dentist came in. He asked me some questions and listened to me when I asked him to let the Novocain set in. He rubbed something on my gums and gave me the shot and it was over before I knew it. No pain. Seriously, I had no pain. I might have relaxed a little bit too.
He came back and drilled out the area and it was over before I knew it. It wasn't so bad after all.
Then one of his assistants came in to fill the hole with a compound and smooth it out. She was friendly and did a good job. The assistant who helped her and the dentist was also friendly and good at what she did. They made me feel relaxed and that I could trust them as they did what they were supposed to.
This trip to the dentist did not turn out as bad as I thought it would. I would like to thank them for their service and the way they treated me. But I am hoping my next trip in Trumbull County will be to a different location.
