The luncheon and the speaker will focus on legislative updates. Terri Bierdemen, director of government relations for the State Teachers Retirement System for the state of Ohio, will address all pension legislation including Senate Bill 5/Issue 2 and how it will affect pensions. There will also be a clothing drive, and items donated will go to the Veterans Family Rehabilitation program.
'EVERY CITIZEN ONLINE': The state of Ohio, through the "Connect Ohio" program has launched "Every Citizen Online." The program, in partnership with more than 200 libraries, community colleges, and educational centers across the state, offers free basic computer and broadband training classes to Ohio adults.
The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles is dedicating computer lab time to the Niles SCOPE Senior Center to specifically allow senior citizens the opportunity to take the free class.
Free classes will begin Monday at the McKinley House Library computer lab. The program runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and includes a workbook. Class size is limited to eight students. Pre-registration is a must.
Additional advanced classes will also be offered by the Niles SCOPE Senior Center if students wish to advance their skills. The productivity classes are $10 and are scheduled as needed.
