NILES - Vivian Jane Whitney, 94, of Bentley Avenue, died Saturday morning, Oct. 1, 2011, at her residence.
Mrs. Whitney was born March 11, 1917, in Peanut, Pa., a daughter of John Bryson and Margaret Frances Treager Marsteller, moving to this area as a child, graduating from Mineral Ridge High School in the Class of 1935.
An active member of the First United Church of Christ, Warren, she taught Sunday school, sponsored the youth group and participated in the women's groups of the church.
She had been employed by the former Strouss' Downtown Warren, where she was the manager of the infant department. She always remembered her family and friends by sending cards of love and friendship.
Her husband, Malcolm G., whom she married Feb. 16, 1935, preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1986. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John B. Marsteller; an infant sister, Dorothy Esther Marsteller; and her son-in-law, Kenneth B. Pelton.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Judith J. Pelton of Hudsonville, Mich., and Cheryl E. Melin of Glen Arbor, Mich.; a sister, Joan Bauer of Southington; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home, 614 Warren Ave., Niles.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in the First United Church of Christ with the Rev. Joe Doran officiating, where friends may call for one hour prior to the service.
Entombment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, at Jane's request, contributions are to be forwarded to the church at 280 E. Market St., Warren.
