John H. and Hermina M. Pugel will be celebrating 65 years of marriage with family and friends at their home in Amherst.
John and the former Hermina Perechlin were united in marriage April 27, 1946, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Youngstown.
Born in 1912 in Gannett, Idaho, John served as a U.S. Army MP in the Persian Gulf Command during World War II. He retired in 1974 from Republic Steel in Youngstown. He enjoys playing cards and doing word search, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Hermina, originally from Little Falls, N.Y., held positions as a telephone operator, florist at Higley's in Niles and a "butcherette" at Rostan's Supermarket in Girard. Now retired, she enjoys reading, game shows, classic movies and cooking. Her family says she bakes an awesome apple strudel.
Both are lifetime members of Concordia Lutheran and the SNPJ Slovenian Fraternal Organization.
Their children, Brenda J. Kovach of Amherst and John T. Pugel of Girard, will be hosting the celebration along with a granddaughter, Dr. Corie L. Kovach. The couple have four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
