Liberty's Victoria Ferry advanced to today's Division II girls tennis sectional semifinals and finals at Boardman High School at 9 a.m.
Teammate Vittoria Vatoria was one step away from joining Ferry in the singles round of four. However, she lost to John F. Kennedy's Chelsea Ross, 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday.
Ferry beat Brookfield's Ashley Kirila on Thursday, 6-3, 6-1.
The singles and doubles winners qualified for the district tournament this coming Thursday in Canton.
Today's semifinals and finals are for next week's seeding.
Joining Ferry and Lee in singles play today are Cardinal Mooney's Nicolette Arnotte, who beat Poland's Amy Noll, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, and JFK's Gabby Lee, who beat Lakeview's Colleen Browning, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
In doubles play on Thursday, Poland's Gabrielle Broker and Danielle Mullis beat Struthers' Valiha Frith and Jenna Berry, 6-1, 6-0; Cardinal Mooney's Dominique Cicchi and Jamie DiDominico beat JFK's Mallory Kohut and Dana Nocera, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3; JFK's Claudia Ricotti and Lauren Lee beat Poland's Katie Slaven and Rachel Vari, 6-3, 6-4; and Cardinal Mooney's Jordan Stefko and Kacey Haggerty beat Struthers' Valiha Frith and Jenna Berry, 6-2, 6-3.
