MINERAL RIDGE - The Mineral Ridge Church of Christ has welcomed Logan Thompson as the church's new youth and children's minister.
Thompson, 23, grew up in North Carolina and then attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tenn., where he earned his degree in preaching and church leadership.
While attending college, Thompson worked at a few churches part-time and then began looking for a full-time position following graduation when he was contacted by Mineral Ridge.
"This is great church where wonderful things can be done for the advancement of God,'' Thompson said, indicating he was welcomed by the church congregation.
He will work with church pastor, the Rev. Bob Gleason who has been at the church for eight years.
Having a father, the Rev. Tim Thompson, and grandfather, the Rev. Alvin Thompson, who were both ministers led Thompson to consider the same career field.
"Ministry is definitely a calling. For a while I was thinking about being an engineer and then a minister. I then began to think there was nothing else I could see myself being than a minister," he said.
He said his junior year in high school he knew he was in the direction for what he wanted to do with his life.
Thompson said his father and grandfather did have some influence in his decision since he admired both of them for the work they did.
His duties as youth and children's minister will include working with the youth and overseeing activities for the children's church programs and family events, Bible school, children's conferences.
Thompson will also oversee and find volunteers also in charge of activities for middle and high school youth events at the church.
"I want to build good relationships with the youth and let them know people care about them. I am hoping to be a positive role model and have a positive impact on their lives,'' Thompson said.
Thompson, who started his duties in early September, said he hopes to see the church grow and have a positive impact in people's lives and the community.
He and his wife, Amanda, who he met in college, have a daughter, Jenna, 1.
