NILES - A day of fun and games for local families helped local children who are living with juvenile diabetes.
The third annual Alexia's Kids Fair and Cut-a-thon was held Sept. 19 in the Niles Park Plaza. The charity day was hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to raise money for children with diabetes.
Alexia Showen, 9, who was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when she was 18 months old, was the honored guest at the annual event held in her name.

Alexia Showen and Joanne Showen attended the third annual Kids Fair held Sept. 19 at Niles Park Plaza and hosted by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which raises funds to help children with diabetes.
Alexia's mother, Joanne Showen, said to help children with juvenile diabetes, she decided to join the fundraising program in hope of helping her daughter and other children.
The event included haircuts, a bake sale and activities for children.
Joanne Showen said approximately 100 people visited the Kids Fair, including 40 who had their hair cut, and $804 was raised.
