HOWLAND -Seniors at the Howland SCOPE Center are receiving creative cooking tips on preparing healthy and nutritious meals and will be featured this week on television showing their cooking skills.
More than 60 seniors gathered at the center for the cooking program which was taped for the ''Casey Malone Show" to air at noon Sept. 18 on WFMJ and at 7 a.m. on Sept. 19 on WBCB.
Senior participants learned about the easy preparations of salads and meals using locally grown and healthy ingredients such as tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and basil.

Chef Richard ''Chookie'' Alberini of Alberini's Restaurant in Niles prepared and demonstrated to the seniors the meals they can easily prepare at home.
Nita James, center director at the Cortland SCOPE Center, said this is a new program offered at the center for seniors which happened to also be videotaped for television broadcast.
''This is a pilot program to see what response we would get from the seniors. The meals are quick to prepare and affordable,'' she said.
The seniors indicated they enjoyed the food noting it was tasty and economic.
Charlotte Moore of Kinsman, an art teacher at the Cortland SCOPE Center, said she enjoys using vegetables grown in her garden in her meals. She said even though the meal prepared was meatless it was still very tasty.
Donna Tingler of Warren said she found the demonstration informative and enjoyed sampling the meal prepared for the show. "It's very simple to prepare. It takes only about 10 minutes and uses all fresh food,' she said.
Virginia Manley of Howland said since she does a lot of the cooking at the Howland SCOPE Center she received ideas and tips for the meals she will be preparing.
