Tribune Chronicle

WARREN - A 169 Washington St. N.E. man is in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond following a shooting at his home about 4:25 a.m. Friday.

Archie Cooper, 38, was arraigned on a charge of felonious assault later Friday in Municipal Court in connection to the shooting of Derrick Cobb, 48, of 851 Parkman Road S.W. Cooper pleaded innocent and has a preliminary hearing Sept. 30.

Police reports state officers were called to the Washington Street N.E. / Mercer Avenue N.E. area on a report of a man shot. They saw Cooper standing in front of his home as paramedics worked on Cobb at the corner, the police report states.

Cooper told officers that Cobb had hit him in the face and was trying to kill him, so Cooper shot him, according to the police report.

Cooper told police he was sitting on his porch with a girl when Cobb approached his home and tried to talk to the juvenile. Cooper told Cobb to leave her alone, and the two began arguing.

Reports state Cooper said Cobb punched him and that Cooper thought he saw Cobb holding a knife. Police did not find a knife at the scene.

Three witnesses said they saw Cobb and Cooper fighting and saw Cooper begin to shoot Cobb and keep firing as they moved down the sidewalk, reports state. Cobb also told police he and Cooper were arguing over a girl and that Cooper shot him.

Police found six spent shell casings on the sidewalk as well as a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun they took off Cooper, reports state.

Cobb was taken to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital to be treated for wounds to his thigh, knee and shin.
