HOWLAND - Six teens and their driver were arrested after mailboxes were smashed with a baseball bat.
The police report names the high school students from Howland as Daniel L. Russell, Robert J. Klose, Daniel W. Ebert, Zachary H. Wilson, Caleb Daum and De'Von L. Smith.
The seventh person, Trevor M. Russell, was driving the car when an officer stopped his green Chevrolet pickup truck on Niles Road, according to the police report.
According to the police report, a complaint was called in at 12:06 a.m. Aug. 19 that an old model pickup truck was smashing mailboxes on Cain Drive.
At 12:31 a.m. an additional call came in from Trumbull County 911 that they had received a complaint of people in a green Chevy pickup smashing mailboxes on Hunters Trail and that the victim, John Temple, was following the vehicle.
Minutes later, at 12:36 a.m., officers saw a truck matching the description and pulled it over on Niles Road, just south of Deforest Road, the report states.
According to the police report, "Trevor admitted that he and listed juvenile passengers were in fact smashing mailboxes with a baseball bat on numerous streets in Howland this evening and that they had discarded the bat.''
Trevor Russell was issued a summons to appear at Warren Municipal Court on charges of criminal damaging.
The six teens were arrested on charges of criminal damaging and curfew violation. They all were released to their parents' custody.
Temple could not be reached for comment. A police spokesman said the boys returned to his house and rebuilt his mailbox.
