Southington made 4-of-5 from the line during the fourth. Pat Hull scored a team-high 15 points and paced Kennedy (1-13) with six in the fourth quarter. Deonte' Stubbs, who had 14 points, put in six during first quarter. Southington (3-11) pulled within three points a couple of times, but the Eagles let the Wildcats get no closer. Brandon Ellis and Craig Reynolds each scored a game-high 19 points for Southington. GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Tigers (13-3, 5-1) were led by Taylor Williams, who got yet another double-double with a combination of 18 points and 13 rebounds, both game highs. Olivia Nicholas came up big as well with a double-double of her own, recording 13 points and 10 assists. Jessica wilson added 11 points. Leanna Yeager led the Bulldogs (8-8, 1-5) with 13 points.
The Tigers were led by 12 steals, three by Rachel Ellis, who had nine points. Destiny Pruski paced the Tigers scoring with 13 points.
Melissa Sloan led Maplewood (3-12) with 27 points.
Mathews scored 10 of her 14 points in the fourth, when the Wildcats (12-4) took their first lead of the game and erased Liberty's two-point advantage by outscoring the Leopards, 22-13. Ashley Baron tied Mathews' team high with 14. Vakeyla Merriweather led Liberty (4-11) with a game-high 23 points.
Jillian halfhill led the Cardinals (9-7, 5-1) with 16 points. Amy Scullion led the Quakers (11-4, 2-3) with 28.
Allyson Smith added 17 for Perry (8-8, 3-4 Federal). Byanca Henderson paced Fitch (4-11 0-7) with 14 points. WRESTLING
J.R. Perry took second at 103 pounds, losing 6-3 in the finals to Brandon Jones of Wadsworth. Chuck Sayre was second at 215, losing to Nick Tavanello of Wadsworth, ranked No. 1 in the state in Division I. Gabe Stark was fourth at 112, Kyle Descenna fourth at 119, Alex Cornicelli sixth at 125, Scott Nalbach fifth at 130, Brian Puharich was eighth, Robby Klose seventh at 145, Tyler Drass eighth at 152, Damar Anderson was third at 160, Bryce Tricker third at 171 and Andrew Rolfe was sixth at 189. Wadsworth won the tournament while Mayfield was second, Howland (8-3) third and Strongsville finished fourth. Other teams that competed were: Olentangy Liberty, GlenOak, Sandusky Perkins, Sandusky, Midview, Eastlake North, University School, Howland. FOOTBALL
The cost for the all-you-can-eat dinner is $8 for adults and $4 for children under the age of 8. Takeout orders will be available. Sauce and wedding soup also will be available. Tickets are available from any Howland football player or club member. Tickets also will be sold at the door. HOCKEY
The Thunder's Cory Timmings had a hat trick, Brian Styers had two goals and two assists and Vince Fornes had two goals. Brennen Allen stopped 20 of 25 in the Lakewood game and Dalton Maurer and T.J. Vacarro combined to stop 24 0f 29 shots against Riverside. |
