WARREN - William A. Paxson, 94, of Warren, passed away and is now reunited with his beloved wife on Saturday morning, Jan. 23, 2010, in Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Howland, where he was a resident.
Born Feb. 17, 1915, in Salem, he was the son of the late William Glen and Anna Racheal Griffith Paxson.
William was a graduate of Berlin Center High School.
He worked for Republic Steel as a scarfer for 11 years before beginning a career in security at Packard Electric. Bill retired in 1974 from Packard Electric after 27 years with the company.
A 50-plus-year member of the Lordstown Lutheran Church, Bill was also member of the Allen Masonic Lodge 276 in Columbiana, past master of the Charity Masonic Lodge 530 in Palmyra, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason with the Valley of Youngstown.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and music. Bill especially enjoyed traveling to Florida, where he spent winters and also to his cottage in Canada. Most of all, he was a devoted and loving family man.
Together with his son, Bill has written a memoir of his life entitled "The Pleasure of His Company" and has left a legacy for his family to cherish.
He married Clara Marie Shively Paxson on July 25, 1935. Bill and Marie shared 71 happy years of marriage before she preceded him in death in December of 2006.
He will be dearly missed by his children, William D. (Linda) Paxson of Southington, Ted M. (Sarah) Paxson of Lordstown and Mitchell M. (Barbara) Paxson of Warren; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Thomas A. Paxso; brothers, Wilber and Richard Paxson; and two sisters, Viva Neilson and Mildred Buffalow.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel with a Masonic service to follow at 7 p.m., and Wednesday morning from 10 until 10:30 a.m. at the Lordstown Lutheran Church. The Rev. Steven Ritter will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will take place in the Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Lordstown Lutheran Church at 5615 Palmyra Road S.W., Warren, Ohio 44481, or to Hospice of the Valley at 5000 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio 44484.
