Betty A. Ackerman 1928-2009

WARREN - Betty A. Ackerman, 81, entered peacefully into the arms of the angels at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at her residence, with her loving family at her side.

Betty was born the daughter of the late Clifford and Dee O'Donnell Toy on April 28, 1928, in Punxsutawney, Pa., was a 1946 graduate of Davidsville High School in Pennsylvania and had been a lifetime area resident.

She had been an assembly worker at the General Electric Corp. for many years and was a faithful parishioner St. James Catholic Church in Warren and had been active with the churches bingo committee and the nut roll committee. She enjoyed cooking and gardening along with spending quality time with her family and friends.

On July 9, 1949, Betty was united into marriage with Homer N. Ackerman and had shared over 51 years together, until his passing in November 2000.

Loving memories of Betty will be remembered and cherished by her family, sons Gregory L. Ackerman of Howland and Brian K. (Mary) Ackerman of Brookfield; daughter, Karen M. (Joe) Diegan of Niles; brothers, Harvey Toy of Titusville, Pa., and Donald Toy of Niles; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer N.; a son, Timothy L. Ackerman in 2007 and a sister, Ellen Knapp.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be observed at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Warren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Charles W. Crumbley.

Betty will be laid to rest in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

The family requests that material contributions take the form of tributes to the St. James Church Restoration Fund, In Memory of Betty A. Ackerman, c/o 2532 Burton St. S.E. Warren, Ohio 44484.
