James R. Jordan 1938-2009

WARREN - James R. Jordan, 71, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, following an extended illness.

He was born in Mansfield on Jan. 3, 1938, a son of Felix and Sylvia Jordan.

James worked several years for Goldsmith clothing store and Tappens in Mansfield. He was the organist and choir director of Greater St. John C.O.G.I.C., where he also later acknowledged his call to ministry. In 1969 James was appointed the position of pastor of St. Paul C.O.G.I.C., which he later renamed Greater Progressive C.O.G.I.C. In February 1970 James became employed by General Motors Lordstown plant and moved to Warren in March the same year.

He enjoyed playing the organ, singing, fishing and even riding the roller coaster at Cedar Point. He occasionally enjoyed cooking but especially eating good food.

James leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Ethelene; his daughter, Marka (Anthony) Peeples; son, Rodger Jordan; grandchildren, Shanika Jordan, Anthony Peeples II, Jordan Peeples, Justin (Netsihet) Peeples, Michael Jordan, Christopher Jordan, Ashley Jordan, Alexandria Peeples and Rodney Jordan; nine great-grandchildren, Shamar, Demontae', Christian, Samaya, Cauri, Tyanna and Shayanna, Kori and Courtney; sisters, Sharlene (Coyet) Jeter and Carolyn Ann (Charles) Reed; brothers, John Samuel (Ann) Jordan and Bishop Walter Earl (Shirley) Jordan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Felix and Sylvia Jordan; brothers, Felix Jordan Jr., George Woodson (Billy Red) Jordan and William Henry (DeeDee) Jordan; a son, James Kevin Jordan, and a sister, Gladys Marie Burton.

The family gives a special thank you to former daughter-in-law Rochelle Jordan and Brandon Blair, his caregivers.

Local calling hours will be at Greater Progressive Church, 1704 Milton St. S.E., Warren, Ohio 44484, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greater St. John Oasis of Love, 190 Chester Ave., Mansfield, Ohio 44903, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Dr. Walter Jordan Jr. is pastor.
