Lorene A. Troxell 1910-2009

YOUNGSTOWN - Lorene A. Troxell, 99, formerly of Warren, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Park Vista Retirement Center in Young-stown.

She was born July 25, 1910, in Massillon, a daughter of Archie Hiram and Nellie H. Ohl Troxell, and had lived in Trumbull County most of her life.

A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Hiram College and Kent State University, Ms. Troxell taught home economics, Latin, and math in Holmes County, Braceville, and Warren for 39 years before retiring in 1971.

A member of First Presbyterian Church in Warren since 1921, she was also a member of Morning Light Chapter 80, Order of the Eastern Star, and Trinity Shrine 42, White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Her professional and civic memberships included the National Education Association, the Ohio Education Association, the National Retired Teachers Association, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the Trumbull Retired Teachers Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the American Association of University Women, the Daughters of the American Revolution - Mary Chesney Chapter, the Beta Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Warren Women's Club, the Trumbull County Historical Society and the Upton Association.

A world traveler, she visited the Great Wall of China, had an airplane ride over the Arctic Circle, a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls in Africa, and a hydrofoil ride on Lake Titicaca in South America.

She will be sadly missed by her friend and caregiver, Sharon (Terry) Campbell of Lordstown, the Ruth Gilbert family, and many other friends and colleagues who were enriched by her presence.

Preceding her in death are her parents, a sister, Frances O. Troxell, and a brother, Donovan O. Troxell.

Services are noon Monday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rusty Cowden officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Bristolville. Friends may call 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.

The Morning Light Chapter 80, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, and services will be led by the Beta Chi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma at 11:45 a.m.
