Josephine E. Accordino 1918-2009

NILES - Josephine E. Accordino, 91, of 370 N. Rhodes Ave., died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her children and family.

She was born June 17, 1918, in Clearfield, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Lena Natoli Butto.

Josephine owned and operated Jo Jo's Pizza Shop and Bar in Niles for 20 years with her husband before retiring in 1973.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, Infante Jesus of Prague Guild, and was a Red Cross and Mobile Meals volunteer for 25 years.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, attending her grandsons' sporting events, and visiting Our Lady of Lebanon National Shrine in North Jackson.

Her husband, Joseph Accordino, whom she married April 29, 1944, died March 4, 1993.

Josephine, who was devoted to her family and church, will be deeply missed by a son, Anthony J. Accordino, with whom she made her home; two daughters, Marie Chilton and her husband, William, of Granbury, Texas, and Tina Bianco of Girard; a brother, Samuel Butto and his wife, Rose, of Niles; a sister, Ang Costello of Youngstown; two grandsons, Santino Joseph and Lorenzo Philip Bianco; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Frank and Francesco Butto; a sister, Lena Natoli; and a son-in-law, Philip Bianco.

Calling hours are private.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, with the Rev. Larry Frient officiating, preceded by a 9 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.

After the burial, all are welcome for a memorial luncheon in Marian Hall at the church.
