Evelyn Henry Brown 1924-2009

WEST FARMINGTON - Evelyn Henry Brown, 85 passed away Friday morning, Dec. 4, 2009, at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.

She was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Norwich, England, a daughter of Harold and Amelia Land Coates.

After Evelyn graduated from high school in England, she was an English war bride who married Marshall Henry in 1944 and moved to West Farmington in 1945. After Marshall Henry died, she later married Jack Brown in 1973. She retired in 1979 after working 30 years at Valchek in Middlefield.

Evelyn was a member of West Farmington United Methodist Church; member and past president of VFW Post 7200 Auxiliary of West Farmington, MOCA 21 Auxiliary; the Woman's Relief Corps and Hall Corps 104. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening.

She will be missed dearly by her loving daughter, Pamela Monroe of West Farmington; her sisters Elaine Fitzmaurice and Jill Halliday, both of England, Marian Norton of Sylva, N.C., Pamela Bucy of Huntsville, Ala., Josephine Wesolowski of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Linda Bewailed of Summit, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Amelia Coates; her first husband Marshall Henry; her second husband Jack Brown; and her sister Pauline.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. VFW Ladies Auxiliary will hold a service at 6:30 p.m. Monday before calling hours.

Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, West Farmington. Pastor Jim George will officiate.
