NILES - Shirley J. Hess, 73, 155 E. State St., passed away peacefully at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Hospice House, following a short illness with cancer.
She was born June 19, 1936 in Garrison, W.Va., a daughter of Emil and Effie Moore Wiseman.
Shirley retired in 1999 after working 20 years as a hostess and waitress at Alberini's Restaurant in Niles. She was a member of Niles First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music, family activities and playing cards and bingo with her friends at Central Park Apartments.
She is survived by two sons, Mark (Lori) Hess and William (Susan) Hess, and two daughters, Terri (JonPaul) Jones and Beverly Peigowski, all of Niles; nine grandchildren, George, Crystal, Matthew, Jennifer, Warren, Taylor, Elizabeth, Emily and Ethan; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Terry (Mary) Wiseman of St. Augustine, Fla.; and a sister, Carol (Kenneth) Thompson of Ashburn, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Jason Tutoki.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Henry Pearce. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
