Walk ‘Candy Cane Lane’

The FOWLER COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS WALK "Candy Cane Lane" will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Various local stores and merchants will be participating. Events include a gingerbread house contest, lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Fowler United Methodist Church, and visit from Santa Claus from noon to 5 p.m. with hot drinks and popcorn. Events will take place at the community center, township buildings, post office, Butts Family museum, Fowler Community Church and other nearby locations at the intersection of Routes 193 and 305.

Nearly 2,300 THANKSGIVING DINNERS will be given to those in need in the community as Antone's restaurant is donating meals and working with the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. Meals will be picked up from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday at Antone's, 8578 Market St., Boardman. Packaging of the meals will begin today with meals delivered to the elderly and those without transportation.

The Newton Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3332 and the Ladies Auxiliary are collecting cookies, and hygiene items for boxes to be mailed to military personnel over the CHRISTMAS SEASON. Anyone who would like to donate items an bring them to the VFW Post at 433 Arlington Road by Sunday. Anyone with a family member or friend who is serving at home or overseas, can drop off their name and address and will add them to the mailing list. Liberty residents are collecting WINTER CLOTHES for community families. Collection barrels are located at the Jewish Community Center, Temple El Emeth and Liberty school buildings. Items being collected are coats, hats, gloves, scarves, back packs and winter coats. Liberty Township administration building will distribute the items from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. The Youngstown Historical Center will present HISTORY KIDS from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. The theme is "Smoke, Fire and Steel" and will include a museum tour, hands-on artifact study, view a 1945 film and look at newspaper. The program is for ages 8 to 14. Cost is $10 for Ohio Historical Society members and $12 others. Registration required by calling 330-743-5934.

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley has partnered with Belleria Pizza and RingGo Deals to offer holiday shoppers deals available on a ring, which holds wallet sized discount deal cards. The rings will be sold for $25 each with 50 percent of the proceeds to benefit the United Way. The event will run through Dec. 24. For more information, call 330-746-8494.
