LIBERTY - Police are investigating the deaths of a woman and 13-year-old girl at 3022 Northgate Drive about 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

The names of the victims and causes of death were not released Monday.

"The double homicide involved two females, an adult and a juvenile," acting Liberty police Capt. Toby Meloro said Monday during a news conference. "They are family members.

"We are interviewing people and following possible leads," Meloro said. "We are in the very early stage of our investigation."

Meloro is acting police chief while Chief Richard Tisone is in Columbus on official business.

''There are leads," Liberty Township Administrator Pat Ungaro said. "There are investigations going on. They're working very hard to try to solve this right away. Unfortunately it's negative news, and it's sad for the people involved."

Police found the bodies following a call to the township's 911 center. He did not describe the call.

The Trumbull County Coroner's Office is investigating the cause of death.

According to the Trumbull County Auditor's Web site, ASM Properties LLC owns the rental home.

Neighbors say the 13-year-old had two brothers and two sisters, and the family has only lived in the duplex for about two months.

Barbara E. Kingsley, who lives at 3020 1/2 Northgate Drive, described her neighbors as kind people who were helpful to her. But she said she couldn't give their names, either.

"The husband was especially kind to me," Kingsley said. "I'm in a wheelchair, and whenever I would go shopping at Sparkle Market, he would help push me around the store.

"Up until this incident, it has been a relatively quiet neighborhood," she said.

Liberty Schools had a counselor in the buildings Monday and will have counselors in the schools today. The girl was a student at W.S. Guy Middle School, though district officials also would not release her name until next of kin is notified.

"We had some students reacting to the news of their classmate's death," Superintendent Mark Lucas said. "Sometimes it takes a day or two for things to sink in, so we decided to have the counselors in the schools for a second day."

At the news conference Monday, Ungaro said the Northgate Road and Green Acres region of the township it is not a high-crime area.

"I really don't hear much about a lot crime in that area," he said. "What happened here could have happened anywhere. Since I've been in Liberty, I've rarely had to deal with crime issues."

parrotslove, move to a real city and you'll see Y'town and Warren aren't so bad. The people that have never left town longer than a month and they no all about everything, everywhere. The truth is without jobs in a nation as great as ours brings crime. It is time that we all do our part and let our legislators know the free ride is over. Instead of complaining on forums, get out and do some real complaining. Call the useless dung in Washington, Columbus, and city hall.
