WARREN - A 19-year-old Champion man was arrested Sunday in connection to a stolen pickup truck that was driven into a power pole and knocked it down.
According to Warren police, Travis Ash, of Ester Drive N.E., Champion, and two others took part in the theft of two vehicles from Hollywood Street N.E. and Beechwood Street N.E.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., Darlene D. Dorff, of Hollywood N.E., told police her silver 1991 Oldsmobile Ciera was stolen from her driveway after her boyfriend started the car, walked back into the house to get his daughter and returned to find it gone.
Less than an hour later, Steven Hover, owner of the red Chevrolet S-10 pickup, said he started his vehicle, went back into his house for "several minutes" and returned to find it gone.
Hover, who lives on Beechwood N.E., told police that a neighbor saw the truck going toward Maplewood N.E. at a high rate of speed.
A short time later, an auxiliary police officer reported seeing a red truck and gold Oldsmobile leaving Packard Park and heading downtown on Mahoning Avenue N.W. before driving in different directions.
Officer Brian Crites spotted the truck as it was driving south on North Park Avenue toward Washington N.W. It made a hard right turn onto Washington and almost lost control, Crites reported.
"As it approached a curve on Washington N.W., the driver of the vehicle lost control, struck the north curb, went into the air and struck a pole in front of 284 Washington head on," Crites wrote in his report.
The truck came to rest in the yard of 315 Washington N.W.
Ash got out of the passenger side door and fled on foot through backyards toward Monroe N.W., where he was caught behind a house, police said.
Police charged Ash with receiving stolen property, failure to comply and no operator's license. He was taken to Trumbull County Jail.
An Ohio Edison spokesperson said 15 customers were affected as the company removed the pole and replaced the transformer.
As of late Sunday, police were still looking for the Oldsmobile.

What, the police didn't give them a ticket for leaving keys in the ignition of an unsupervised car? The cops are slipping.Make the victim a criminal, too.Warren's finest.

I think the article would of made the victims sound smarter if it just said they were warming up their cars instead of them turning on their cars and walking away.

Burbs have big problems that stay out of the media Dr. More drugs found in their schools than in the city, we just don't read about it. More of the burb kids in local counseling centers as well, for ills that would make you ill. Our media is only doing what they are paid to do.

There's a small group of duplexes on Ester in Champion. That's where all the white trash is. I'd be willing to bet these guys lived on the corned of Copeland and Esther where all the booming cars constantly pull in and out of the driveway.
