MINERAL RIDGE - Ronald R. Cottrell, 60, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2009, at his home after losing his courageous battle with cancer.

Ron was born Dec. 13, 1948, in Canton, a son of Elmer and Jeanne A. Seeley Cottrell.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.

He currently worked in maintenance at the Kent State University Rec. Center.

Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR.

Ron will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Kay Goldsmith, whom he married July 21, 1973; his mother, Jeanne A. Cottrell of Niles; three children, Kary Cottrell of Warren, Allison Cottrell of Niles and Brian Cottrell of Mineral Ridge; sister, Sharon (Mark) Thou of Niles; and brother, Dennis (Angie) Cottrell of Mineral Ridge.

On July 25, 2009, Ron celebrated the birth of his first granddaughter, Airiana Lea Jones. The family would especially like to thank Roger Cozadd for all of his help given to Ron.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
