SYCAMORE - Laura N. Cassidy, 95, formerly of North Sycamore Ave., Sycamore, died at Fairhaven Health Care Community at 4:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009.
She was born Nov. 18, 1913 in Newton Falls, to the late Garrett W. Clabaugh and Lillie A. Corfman Pontius.
She married James L. Cassidy Jan. 1, 1936, in Hudson. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1998.
Laura is survived by a son Norman G. (Juanita) Cassidy, Sycamore; three grandchildren Gary M. (Jennie) Cassidy, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Jon (Michelle) Mitchell, Milan, Mich., and Mrs. Brent (Rebecca) Winter, Livonia, Mich.; and seven great-grandchildren.
She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Dwight, Ernest, Byron Clabaugh; and one sister, Elizabeth Kuntz.
Laura also kept in contact with Hanny Valk, formerly of Holland, now Alberta, Canada, and George Korhonen of Finland, both part of the Ohio Young Farm Bureau Apprentice Program, in which she and her husband participated.
Laura was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She attended the Sycamore United Church of Christ and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Newton Falls, a 1931 graduate of Newton Falls High School, a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau, she had served on the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, a former member and past officer of the Lordstown Garden Guild, member of the Leading Star Chapter #79 O.E.S., she had served as chairman of Lordstown Community Council for 10 years involved in the incorporating of Lordstown Township into Lordstown Village. She had been a member of the Mohawk Historical Society, Mohawk Sixty Plus Club, she also wrote articles for newspapers and Farm Bureau magazines and Laura enjoyed baking rolls and bread for her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Walton Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Robin Labolt and the Rev. Mary Curtis officiating. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 3, 2009, at the Walton Moore Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.
