Arlie V. Shriver 1921-2009

NILES - Arlie Verne Shriver, 88, formerly of Mineral Ridge, died at 6:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home, Niles.

Mr. Shriver was born July 13, 1921, in Apollo, Pa., a son of Marlin and Sadie Munson Shriver. A member of First United Methodist Church of Mineral Ridge, he had been employed by the RMI Corp. as a supervisor in flat products. An employee for 31 years, he retired May 31, 1985.

He was also a member of the Youngstown Shrine Club and the William McKinley Masonic Lodge 794 F&AM. He enjoyed hunting , fishing and the time spent with his grandchildren. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and part of the Normandy invasion.

His wife, the former Thelma Yvonne Langham, whom he married July 25, 1945, preceded him in death Aug. 31, 2006. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his sons, Robert A., and his wife, Lois, of Niles, Richard A. and his wife, Sandi, of Girard; daughters, Denise R. Lopes and her husband, David, of Niles, and Andrea E. Shriver of Kinsman; a brother, Robert of Lordstown; eight grandchildren, Shelley, Leslie, Jason, Shawn, Michelle, Ashley, David and Justin; and six great-grandchildren, John, Michael, Jake, Zach, Scarlett and Sage.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Curtis A. Miller officiating at the Robert P. McDermott Memorial Home, where friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and where the William McKinley Lodge 794 F&AM will hold services at 3:45 p.m.

Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery, where Mr. Shriver will be honored for his service to our country by the Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard. The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the Mineral Ridge First United Methodist Church, 3711 state Route 46, 44440.
