Lucy Farthing 1914-2009

NILES - Lucy Williams Farthing, 95, died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Shepherd of the Valley Niles.

She was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Chelyan, W.Va., a daughter of the late Isaac Franklin and Minnie Goldsberry Williams.

Lucy married Gilbert Stafford Farthing, Oct. 6, 1937, and he preceded her in death on April 3, 1980.

She was a homemaker and a member of Warren First Church of the Nazarene, where she baked thousands of loaves of bread for the visitors, church members and for missions. In West Virginia and Kentucky, she was active in church choirs, Sunday school, missions and served on the church boards.

Lucy is survived by her son, Leslie (Carol) Farthing of Southington; a daughter, Coralea (Daniel) Dolan of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, David, Scott and Timothy Dolan; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Sawyers of Griffin, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Courtney; and two sisters, Bonnie Reathel Johnson and Drucilla Vickers.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home with calling hours one hour prior to the service. Pastor Broe Davis will officiate. Burial will be Saturday at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, W.Va.

The family request material contributions be made to the Warren First Church of the Nazarene, 4179 Parkman Road N.W., Warren, Ohio 44481, in her memory.
