Mariam Rasey 1915-2009

SOUTHINGTON - Mariam Mazey Kennedy Rasey, 94, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Niles, a daughter of John H. and Mary Ann Thomas Kennedy, and had lived in Trumbull County all her life.

A 1935 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Mrs. Rasey also graduated from beauty school and Warren Business College. She worked as a public stenographer, a racing secretary, and owned a beauty shop. Her last job was with the Trumbull County Board of Elections, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Leavittsburg Church of God and a lifetime member and past Worthy Matron of Crescent Chapter 7 of Eastern Star in Garrettsville. An accomplished violinist, she also loved to crochet.

Surviving are her children, Lowell A. ''Larry'' (Nancy) Rasey Jr. of Champion, John K. (Beverly) Rasey of Southington, William H. (Ora Lee) Rasey of Champion, Shirley A. (Dennis) Orpurt of Southington and the Rev. Thomas L. (Cheryl) Rasey of Great Falls, Mont.; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Virginia May Mills of New Site, Miss.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Lowell A. Rasey Sr., whom she married July 20, 1940, and who died May 18, 1998; and two sisters, Florence Mary Kennedy and Shirley June McCormac.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Leavittsburg Church of God, with her grandson Pastor Mark Rasey and the Rev. Byron Bowers officiating. Interment will follow at Southington Reformed Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
