CHAMPION - Mary M. "Peggy" Timko, 84, of Champion, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren.

A member of St. William Parish, where she participated in the Naim Club, Mrs. Timko attended Warren G. Harding High School.

Early on, she worked as a door-to-door census taker and at Dunkin' Donuts on West Market Street. She retired as a sales manager for Equitable Life Insurance Co.

She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and liked to spend time with her church friends, with whom she played cards once a month. An avid Cleveland Indians fan, she had been active in card clubs and bowling leagues in the 1970s.

Surviving are her children, Stephen M. (Cathy) Timko Jr. of Aliquippa, Pa., Susan M. Ruth of Howland, with whom she made her home this past year, Joanne Timko of Champion, John J. Timko of Orwell, Margaret L. (Greg) Foster of Champion and Marybeth (Dave) Trask of Warren; 19 grandchildren, Debra Caroselli, Robin Caroselli, Michele Flavell, Michelle (Dave) Quinn, Stephen E. Timko, Melissa (Jim) Hickman, Kevin (April) Pounds, Stephanie (Greg) Groves, Jason (Angie) Coffee, Regina (Kevin) Parry, Jared (Angela) Timko, Michael Timko, Meghan (Mitch) Payne, Brian Timko, Rachel Stalnaker, Haley Foster, Hannah Foster, Anthony Kromer and Christopher Kromer; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Stephen M. Timko Sr., whom she married Sept. 14, 1946, and with whom she enjoyed more than 55 years marriage before he passed away on June 6, 2002; four sisters, Lillian Weir, Laverne Enzian, Martha Regas Weir and June Pulkowski; and three brothers, Joseph "Jack," Harold and William Weir.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. William Parish, 5431 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44483, with the Rev. Michael D. Balash officiating. Interment will follow at Sager Cemetery in Bristolville.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

The family wishes to pay special tribute to the nurses, therapists, hospice workers and other staff at St. Joseph Health Center, whose devoted care made such a positive difference in the last weeks of Mary's life. Among these wonderful people are Diane, Christa, Roxie, Cathy, Lisa, Cynthia, Sonja, Randall, and others too numerous to mention. Thanks to her team of doctors who took care of her in her illness, and a special thanks to Dr. Frank Vargo and his staff, who have been there to take care of Mary, time after time, for years. To all of you, thanks for what you do, for Mary and so many others.

Thank you, too, to all her Champion friends and neighbors, for your phone calls and cards, for your deeds big and small, from cutting the grass to stopping by to say hi. Your concern has meant the world to us, her family.

Arrangements are entrusted to McFarland & Son Funeral Services Co., 271 N. Park Ave., Warren, Ohio 44481.
