Kinsman man shot in hand early Sunday
KINSMAN - A township man was shot in the hand after hearing a knock on his door early Sunday, according to police.
A supervisor at the Trumbull County 911 Center said a call came into the center at 3:32 a.m. from 7333 Perkins Greenville Road, where the resident reported he was shot in the hand as he was answering a knock at the front door. The 911 Center did not have the victim's name, but the Trumbull County Auditor lists the property owner as Donald R. Sutton.
According to a call log, the victim said he heard a knock and as he asked who it was and reached for the doorknob, he heard a gunshot. The victim applied pressure to stop the bleeding, the call log states.
Trumbull County Sheriff's deputies recovered a shell casing from a 20-gauge shotgun at the scene, the supervisor said.
Kinsman police Chief Leroy Long said he did not have any information because the incident is being handled by the sheriff's office, but he was told by a family member that Sutton was undergoing surgery Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
