Stella C. Demsey 1914-2009

BOARDMAN - Stella C. Demsey, 95, formerly of Stewart Road in Lowellville, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Oct. 11, 2009, at Hospice House in Poland.

Stella was born April 15, 1914, in Star Junction, Pa., a daughter of the late Samuel and Karoline Steliga Gunia, and came to Youngstown with her family on May 7, 1926.

She was a dedicated homemaker and also had worked for Republic Rubber Works during the 1930s.

A woman of abiding faith, Stella was a founding member of the former Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church on Stewart Avenue in Youngstown, and remained active in her church until it closed in the early 1990s. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and, most importantly, spending time with her family.

Her husband, John J. Demsey, whom she married Sept. 26, 1936, died Oct. 27, 1991.

Stella leaves a son, Dennis (Joyce) Demsey of Cortland; a daughter, Judith Neyman with whom she made her home; two grandsons, Brian (Traci) Demsey and Eric (Abigale) Demsey of Cortland; a granddaughter, Christina (Dr. Thomas) Sossong of Philadelphia; three great-grandchildren, Madyson Marie, Ella Joy and Luke Thomas Demsey; a sister, Helen Kurdys of Boardman and many nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Walter and Frank Gunia; a sister, Emily Krasinski; and a son-in-law, the Rev. John Neyman, preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 7 p.m.
