Thelma Beryl Miller 1925-2009

GUSTAVUS - Thelma Beryl Miller, 84, of Gustavus, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Shepherd of the Valley.

She was born March 2, 1925, in Gladstone, Manitoba, the daughter of Roland C. and Bessie Tinck Knox.

A longtime Gustavus resident, Mrs. Miller was a Warren G. Harding High School graduate. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University.

She was employed as a school teacher for many years for the Gustavus, Lordstown and Lakeview schools, teaching English and algebra.

She was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church, where she belonged to the Gustavus Community Aid. She was a member of the U&I Club in Gustavus, the Gustavus Friendly Garden Club, the Trumbull County Historical Society, the Trumbull County Garden Forum, where she was a judge, and the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, where she was a council member. She also served on the library board and was a former member of the Kinsman BPW and the Gustavus Grange.

Her hobbies included collecting antiques and playing cards, and she loved arranging flowers and judging them.

Mrs. Miller married R. Lawrence ''Spy'' Miller on June 13, 1953, and he preceded her in death July 12, 2007. Also preceding her in death are her parents and brother, Errol Knox.

She is survived by her son, Russell E. ''Rusty'' and his wife, Mindy Miller, of Gustavus; two granddaughters, Emily L. and Jenna R. Miller, both of Gustavus; stepmother, Leota Knox of Warren; and two brothers, Gary Knox of Warren and Chuck Knox of Illinois.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, with the Rev. Karl Bucey officiating. Burial will follow at Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
