Howland native Gina M. Camelli was appointed assistant principal of Howland Middle School at a special meeting of the Howland Board of Education last month.
Camelli is no stranger to Howland schools. She is a graduate of Howland High School and continues to live in the community with her daughter, Alexis. Camelli received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Youngstown State University, as well as her administration certification.
Prior to accepting the position of assistant principal, Camelli taught world culture at the middle school for two years and for the past nine years taught history at the high school.
''This has been a long-time goal of mine,'' Camelli said. ''I am excited to be in this position.''
Camelli said her goal as assistant principal is to continue to maintain excellence at the school. She also said providing a safe environment for students will continue to be an important objective, as well as maintaining the quality of education for students in grades six through eight.
