NEWTON FALLS - Anthony J. Apanasewicz of Newton Falls passed peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
Anthony was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Daisytown, Pa., the son of Anthony J. and Mary Belski Apanasewicz.
Attending the Walkertown school system, Anthony graduated in 1953 from Walkertown High School.
Relocating to this area, Anthony obtained employment at Republic Steel in Warren in 1955.
Although gainfully employed, he made a decision to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country honorably from Jan. 20, 1958, until his discharge Jan. 6, 1960. Anthony then returned to his former employer, retiring from his duties as a loader at WCI in 2000.
On June 25, 1960, in St. Peter Catholic Church, Brownsville, Pa., Anthony J. Apanasewicz and Nellie M. Federer were united in marriage. They were blessed with two sons, Daniel and Anthony.
Anthony was a parishioner of St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls.
His enjoyable pastimes included hunting, fishing and golfing. He was happy to attend and support his sons in the participation in various sporting events.
Anthony was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates, and would relax while watching the games.
His loving family, sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony Jr. and Amanda of Warren, Daniel and Tracy of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; his granddaughters, Alexa Renee, Tatyana and Victoria; and his sisters, Frances (Ronald) Rullie of Austintown and Helen Kohute of Newton Falls, will carry on cherished memories of Anthony.
He was preceded by his wife, Nellie, Aug. 9, 2007.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Borowski Memorial Home, Newton Falls, where a prayer service will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish, Newton Falls, with the Rev. Matthew Mankowski as celebrant.
The Newton Falls Veterans Organization Honor Guard will honor Anthony with a Military Service. Anthony will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Paris Township.
