CHAMPION -- A Southington teenager died and two others were injured late Monday after the girl lost control of her car hitting two trees on State Road just west of Old Colony Road.
Christie Manchester, 17, died at the scene. A passenger, Kaylynn Barco, 17, of Southington, was taken to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital and was in serious condition, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Another passenger, Ellen Becker, 18, of Struthers, was taken by medical helicopter from the scene to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where she was in critical condition.
According to reports, Manchester was driving west on State Road, when her 1994 Pontiac Grand Am went off the right side of the road and hit two trees. Seat belts were not used and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, said police.
The crash, which occurred at 11:30 p.m., remains under investigation.
