Auburn, N.Y. - Four pitchers combined on a shutout as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeated the Auburn Doubledays, 2-0, in New York-Penn League play on Wednesday night.
Preston Guilmet pitched the first six innings, limiting the Doubledays to four hits. He struck out five.
Guido Fonseca, Nick Kirk and Tyler Sturdevant each worked a scoreless inning to close out the game. Sturdevant struck out the side in the ninth for his first save of the season.
The Scrappers scored both of their runs in the second inning, when Ben Carlson singled and scored on Jason Smit's home run.
Carlson led the Scrappers with three hits.
The Scrappers will try to sweep the two-game series at 7:05 tonight.
Marty Popham (3-1, 1.89 ERA) is scheduled to start for Mahoning Valley.
