LEAVITTSBURG - Frances June Humphrey, 81, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009, at her residence.
She was born in Buchannon, W.Va., on Oct. 23, 1927, a daughter of the late Dow and Beppie Dove (Lantz) Humphrey.
Moving to the area in 1952, Frances worked as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a member of Leavittsburg Church of God. Frances' true loves in life were children. She was a foster mother to over 100 children from 1993 until September 2008. She also enjoyed crocheting, having made baby blankets for her whole family.
Frances married her husband, French David Humphrey, on March 9, 1945. He preceded her death in 1997. Together they shared 52 years of marriage.
She is survived by her 11 children, Frances Kay Aldridge and companion Bill of Oregon, Beppie Humphrey of Leavittsburg, Eva Pauline (Anthony) Newman of Southington, Mary Iser of Leavittsburg; David Glenn (Janie) Humphrey of Leavittsburg, Londa (James) Stewart of Bristolville, Ernest Don (Dottie) Humphrey of Leavittsburg, Roger (Cindy) Humphrey of Leavittsburg, Carl Lee (Billie) Humphrey of Howland, Shirley (Daniel) Pence of Leavittsburg and Barbara (Kenneth) Runyon of West Virginia; her two grandchildren she raised, David Iser and June Stewart, both of Leavittsburg; one adopted daughter, Clara of California; 39 grandchildren; 81 great- and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Gloria) Heatherly of Warren and Ernest (Millie) Heatherly of Bristolville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, French; and three sisters, Catherine Cobb, Mary Elizabeth Heatherly and Ernestine Walton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
