The Youngstown/War-ren Regional Chamber is sending a survey to more than 1,200 area businesses seeking data that will be used to update its Starting Wages and Benefits report.
The Regional Chamber's Starting Wages and Benefits publication is different from other wage surveys because it focuses on starting wages rather than average wages.
"This indispensable tool gives current and prospective employers an idea of what local labor costs are for new positions. We use this important information regularly for both our businesses attraction and retention efforts," says Walter Good, Regional Chamber vice president.
Every two years, area employers are contacted and asked about starting wages for various positions within their company.
Occupations were selected based on interest to industries, projected growth occupations and future industry trends. They include professional, skilled and non-skilled positions from industries such as manufacturing, health care, service businesses, retailers and distributors.
Along with starting wages, the survey also contains questions on benefits available at the company, including medical coverage and vacation time.
The complete report will be available to all those who participate. Only aggregate results will be published and individual questionnaire information is kept strictly confidential.
The survey will be distributed to businesses in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, either by e-mail or by regular mail, by July 30. Surveys should be returned by Aug. 20.
If a business has more than 10 employees and wishes to participate, it can download a copy of the survey from the Economic Development area of the Chamber's Web site, www.regionalcham-ber.com.
