WARREN - A man who said he was walking home on Rogers Ave. S.E. was shot in the hand Thursday morning by two men, police said.
Juchard Duncan, 18, of Warren, was walking on the road when two men in a black car pulled up and called out to him just after 11 a.m., a police report states. He was shot in the hand, and when he took off running, more shots were fired, police said.
Duncan, who said he didn't know the men, was treated at St. Joseph Health Center.
Pa. man arrested on bootleg claims
WARREN - A Hermitage, Pa., man was arrested Wednesday after police said he was selling bootleg movies and CDs to customers on West Market Street.
Dorian A. Brown, 35, 1590 S. Park Drive, Hermitage, pleaded not guilty to a charge of criminal simulation in Warren Municipal Court on Thursday and was issued $2,500 bond, which he had not posted as of Thursday afternoon.
According to police reports, someone told them that Brown was parked in a West Market Street business' parking lot about 7 p.m. selling the movies and CDs. An officer found hundreds of packaged CDs in his car, police said. Brown told police he had a production company that makes them, the police report states.
Brown also was wanted on a warrant out of Mahoning County and for failing to pay fines and costs on a separate Warren charge.
LaBrae board hires middle principal
LEAVITTSBURG - The LaBrae Local Board of Education on Thursday voted to hire Martin Kelly as the new principal of LaBrae Middle School. Kelly is a former pod principal at Lincoln K-8 school in Warren City Schools.
The board also hired Tanya Seese as a first-grade teacher and Joseph Trimbur to be a half-time technology and art teacher.
The board also approved the district summer intervention program. It has canceled its scheduled July meeting.
Badger appoints Kidd as board member
GUSTAVUS - Joseph Badger Local Schools Board of Education voted 4-0 this week to appoint Gary Kidd to fill a board vacancy.
Kidd will complete the unexpired term created when Jeffrey Mathews resigned last month after eight years on the board, citing personal reasons. Kidd's term will take effect immediately and run through December.
Pile of tires set on fire
YOUNGSTOWN - Firefighters said about 100 tires were set on fire in a yard at 2840 Wardle Ave. early Wednesday morning.
Crews were called about 4 a.m. for a report of a building on fire and instead found two large piles of tires burning, reports state.
Reports also said there is evidence that many more tires had been burned at another time.
