Martha Plant 1938-2009

SOUTHINGTON - Martha Shaffer Plant, 71, passed away at her home Saturday morning, June 27, 2009.

Martha was born May 24, 1938, in Richwood, W.Va., the daughter of Daniel J. and Euva (Collins) Hanna.

Martha was a 1957 graduate of Richwood High School in Richmond, W.Va.

She was employed by Packard Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1999.

Martha was a member of Leavittsburg Church of God and a member of The Gathering. She enjoyed golf, traveling and her constant companion Molly. Martha was very charitable to World Vision, Habitat for Humanity and multiple other organizations.

Martha leaves behind her husband, Charles M. Plant, whom she married on Sept. 11, 1989. She also leaves behind two daughters, Lisa (Mark) Mitchell of Orlando, Fla., and Trish Shaffer of Warren; three stepchildren, Linda (Wayne) of New Jersey, Elaine (Ken) of Warren and Charles M. (Kathy) Plant of Dayton; sisters, Ada Harker of Canada, Vada Taylor, Clara Martin, Pauline Harrison and June Strader, all of West Virginia, Jean Phillips of Illinois and Dorothy Talbert of North Carolina; a stepsister, Nora Hackathorn; two grandsons, Justin and Travis of Florida, and two step-grandchildren.

Preceding Martha in death were her parents; a brother, Ted Hanna; and sister, Vera Harker.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna, with the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Selby-Simpson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
