Mary E. Williams 1917-2009
GREENVILLE, Pa. - Mary E. Williams, 91, formerly of Orangeville, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 28, 2009 at St. Paul Homes, Greenville, Pa.
Mrs. Williams was born May 30, 1917, in Goshen, Va., the daughter of Paul C. and Nettie Curry Gilliland.
She was a 1935 graduate of Vernon High School, Vernon, and was a homemaker all her life.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Orangeville United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the U.M.W. and the choir, taught Sunday school and was a former leader of the Youth Group. In Orangeville, she was a member of the Literary Club, the Thump and Bump Club, and the Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, singing and watching TV.
She married Charles F. Williams, July 17, 1936. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1999.
She is survived by two daughters, Lee Popovich and Carla Williams, both of Orangeville; two sons, Peter Williams of Hermitage, Pa., and Timothy Williams of Hartford; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Hazel Costigan, and two brothers, Lee and Paul Gilliland.
Friends and relatives may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 state Route 7, Hartford, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Orangeville United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. John Benigas officiating. Burial will be at Orangeville Cemetery.
